“I’ve observed three things regarding the college experience in my life that have had a profound impact on me. First, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing firsthand how a college education can dramatically improve somebody’s life and how they in turn can improve their family’s lives for generations to come. Second, I’ve seen how failing to develop a plan for paying for college can have a negative impact on parents’ retirement prospects. Some must delay retirement and others simply cannot retire in the way they had envisioned. Third, I’ve seen how goals need to be modified based on budget and not academic proficiency nor drive. As a parent, I never want to have to say to my children any version of, “congrats on getting into that school but we can’t afford to send you.” As a financial professional, I never want any of my clients to be in that position either.”
